      <image:title>PROJECTS - Lancaster Street</image:title>
      <image:caption>Lancaster St will be home to 550 university students at the doorstep of Birmingham’s “Learning Quarter.” Sited within a rapidly developing corner of the city, the project’s 24 floor tower collaborates with adjacent developments to define a new gateway to central Birmingham. Its slender tower clearly stands apart from its neighbors. Its shape is articulated with chamfered corners which distinguish the tower from its base. Further, they animate the elevation by catching light and shadow, and create long rising lines to emphasize the tower’s verticality. It’s eight storey podium gives clear definition to the block, which will be activated by diverse activities on the ground floor. The project’s facades offer a sense of movement and depth which emphasises the project’s verticality. An alternating pattern of solid pre-cast concrete panels and glazed openings wraps the project; it is a structural skin. It changes width in accordance with the rooms behind, creating an optical effect of undulation. It elongates as it stretches up the tower, drawing the eye upward. The precast panels give the elevation a tactile dimension. We propose a light, warm hue that will stand in contrast to the darkness of nearby developments. The treatment of the material acknowledges Birmingham’s architectural legacy. It is equally influenced for the suppleness of its terra cotta buildings and the strength of its mid-century buildings – two vocabularies which marry structure, skin and tactility.</image:caption>

      <image:title>PROJECTS - Curzon Circle</image:title>
      <image:caption>Encouraging healthy, sustainable living with access to a wide range of high-quality units for students Curzon Circle will be home to 371 students in a mix of different unit types, ranging from studios to nine-room clusters. The site is at a key gateway location in Birmingham. A regeneration at Curzon Circus that capitalises on the new development and amenities that will flourish around Birmingham’s coming HS2 station. The creation of a lived-in real and active part of the area and uses. The building entrance in framed in a set-back glazed facade, bringing movement and activity to the corner of Vauxhall and Lawley Middleway. Plant and servicing areas are housed in the building core, with minimal impact on the facade. The ground floor’s perimeter is enlivened by a range of different uses – a café, student lounge and study spaces. A student hub opens up to a landscaped upper terrace courtyard, creating a communal indoor-outdoor experience.</image:caption>

      <image:title>PROJECTS - Ross Street, Cambridge</image:title>
      <image:caption>This project modernizes a Victorian terrace house in Cambridge's Mill Road conservation area. It reconsiders the house’s internal organization and rear elevation, to create a series of spaces that relate to the garden and utilize natural light. On the ground floor, a single-story extension provides a new kitchen. It is a liner space that links the core of the house to the garden. At its end, the extension steps in from the edges of the site to create an intimate niche, which allows it to interlock with the garden and to draw natural light into the volume. The kitchen can be completely opened via a broad set of bi-folding doors. It is designed with a language of taught vertical and horizontal lines and clear volumes. Framed in exposed brickwork and rafters, the geometry and materiality imbue the space with warmth, solidity and tactility. On the first floor, a small bedroom is repurposed to create a main bathroom for the family. The project culminates with the conversion of the loft into a new bedroom with an en-suite bathroom. Overall, the project grants the family a spacious new kitchen, and two new bathrooms, and a ground floor powder room – solving the existing house’s shortcomings. The works maintain the house’s traditional front façade, and do not disrupt Ross Street’s character. The new volumes in the rear are carefully articulated to compliment the surrounding fabric with a contemporary sense of detail and composition.</image:caption>

      <image:title>PROJECTS - Junction Road</image:title>
      <image:caption>Nestled within a deep block, this project transforms a long under-used parking lot into a vibrant community of nine homes. It demonstrates how we bring density and new life-style options to neighbourhoods in London’s periphery. The L-shaped arrangement of the houses defines a common forecourt, and its orientation gives each house a private garden with southern exposure. Compositionally, the design works with a theme of the collective vs individual, and its material palette alludes to local housing traditions and fosters ties to its natural setting by Black’s Brook. Status: granted planning consent, 2021 Area: 9 3Bedroom homes, 9,500m2</image:caption>
